Lost Flamingo Company’s last show of the quarter, House of Yes, opens tonight and depicts one family’s obsession with the Kennedy family and an engagement that causes one member of the clan to go crazy.
“(The play is) about two siblings, Marty and Jackie-O, who are in love with each other. Jackie-O is insane and she likes to dress up as Jackie Kennedy. She has a full outfit with macaroni as brains and ketchup as blood,” said Charlie Petrey, a junior studying audio production and director of the show
Things get crazy when Marty brings home a fiancé, causing the entire family to have funny and sometimes shocking reactions.
“There are a lot of points where you will be shocked, you may be disgusted or you may be enthralled by what’s going on with the cast,” Petrey said.
Unlike traditional theater, House of Yes keeps most of the cast on stage at all times.
“Its not a typical show where you have blackouts, entrances and scene changes. Everyone just moves in and out of the shadows, which makes the house seem alive,” Petrey said.
House of Yes was written by Wendy MacLeod in 1995 and turned into a movie starring Parker Posey in 1997.
Even with the lack of traditional production elements, the characters keep the show interesting, Petrey said.
“The characters are really amazing; each individual character stands on its own two legs throughout the entire show, and the cast has great chemistry,” he said.
